šŸ Beach Volleyball Rules – Easy Guide for Players

1. Teams & Court

  • 2 players per team.

  • Court size: 16m x 8m.

  • No attack line—hit from anywhere!

2. Scoring

  • Matches are best of 3 sets.

  • Sets 1 & 2 go to 21 points, final set to 15.

  • Must win by 2.

  • Rally scoring = every serve counts.

3. Serving

  • Overhand or underhand, both are allowed.

  • Don’t step on or cross the service line.

  • Net serves are okay if the ball goes over.

4. Ball Touches

  • 3 touches max (block counts as one).

  • No ā€œfinger dinksā€ — use knuckles, a closed fist, or firm push.

  • Keep contacts clean—no lifts, holds, or prolonged double touches.

5. Blocking

  • A block counts as a touch.

  • The blocker can make the next contact immediately.

  • Hands can cross the net only after the opponent has attacked.

6. Switching Sides

  • Switch sides every 7 points in sets to 21.

  • Switch every 5 points in a 15-point deciding set.

7. In or Out

  • Ball touching any part of the line = IN.

  • Ball fully outside the line = OUT.

8. Common Faults

  • Touching the net during play.

  • Crossing under the net and interfering with opponents.

  • Double contact on serve receive (except on hard-driven attacks).

  • Catching, lifting, or carrying the ball.
